J2EE & SQL Analyst Programmer (Developer)

Excellent opportunity for a diligent technical resource who believes he can effectively work with our Offshore software provider. This role requires 'hands-on' technical functions, engaging with business users and technical teams to evaluate business requirements, to build, enhance, maintain and support applications.

The Responsibilities include: development & coding, implementation, support and maintenance of applications, ensuring adherence to change management, problem management and quality assurance processes. This involves working with other application development teams, support teams, business and external offshore partners.

This role will suit an experienced Senior Analyst Programmer who has a good knowledge of Object Oriented Analysis and Design, J2EE, SQL and an understanding of system development methodologies & processes. The successful applicant will also have problem solving, leadership and excellent relationship skills.

This is a high profile position and a great opportunity for a self starter and team player with a proven commitment to their work.

Competencies

  • Ability to work within a global “virtual” team

  • Enterprise Java, J2EE, Standard XML and XSLT
  • Strong SQL query knowledge
  • Websphere Version 5 or above
  • Ability to install/deploy/debug software in various environments
  • Oracle 9i, 10g
  • SQL Server 2000 to current version
  • Version control tool Borland Star Team
  • Excellent communication and client presentation skills
  • Strong Programming and design skills
  • Financial services experience with Risk Insurance experience preferred.
  • Experience with distributed computing and web services
  • Experience in database design and development
  • Windows 32, XP
  • Exposure to IIS and IHS experience
  • Queuing experience - Websphere MQ / Application Server.
  • Experience in System, Regression, performance testing
  • Familiar with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

Knowledge and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics) or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ Years experience in software analysis and design.
  • 3+ Years experience in Java.
  • Track record of successful project delivery using a structured SDLC.
  • Experience working with offshore teams and using Agile tools and techniques is desirable.

Scope of Role

  • Analysing business and system problems and designing and leading the implementation of system changes.
  • Third party package integration and configuration.
  • Acting as the technical liaison between the offshore Software Provider team and the various local clients
  • After hours support may be required to liaise with global team members

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare and maintain system documentation
